UNFCCC Publishes Report on National Adaptation Plans

The synthesis report on the process and the modalities and guidelines for national adaptation plans synthesizes a number of different themes and issues that were raised in the submissions by parties and relevant organizations.

It concludes with a synthesis of views on the next steps and the launching of the national adaptation plan process.

4 November 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a synthesis report (FCCC/SBI/2011/13) on the process and the modalities and guidelines for national adaptation plans, for consideration by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI). The report synthesizes the views submitted by parties and relevant organizations on national adaptation plans.

It reports on the process to enable least developed country (LDC) parties to formulate and implement national adaptation plans, building upon their experience in preparing and implementing national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs), and on the modalities and guidelines for LDC parties and other developing country parties to employ the modalities formulated to support national adaptation plans. The report synthesizes a number of different themes and issues that were raised in the submissions. It concludes with a synthesis of views on the next steps and the launching of the national adaptation plan process.

The report will be considered by the 35th session of the SBI, which will take place from 28 November- 3 December 2011, in Durban, South Africa. [Publication: Synthesis Report on the Process and the Modalities and Guidelines for National Adaptation Plans]
