9 May 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report that provides an overview of progress made under the Nairobi work programme on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change (NWP) since the 37th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 37).

The report, which focuses on activities implemented, contains the NWP’s activities and expected outputs structured around the two thematic areas of: impacts and vulnerability; and adaptation planning, measures and actions. The report contains a chapter describing activities carried out in implementing activities under the NWP, focusing on: the engagement of organizations, institutions, experts, communities and the private sector; collaboration between parties, the NWP partner organizations and the private sector; and the provision and dissemination of information and knowledge. The report also contains an annex with partner organizations by regional focus, deliverable activities, climate hazard and sector.

This report was prepared upon a request by SBSTA for consideration of each of its session of a report containing progress made implementing activities under the NWP. Moreover, on next steps, the report highlights that at its 17th session, the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC requested the SBSTA 38 to reconsider the NWP’s work areas to make recommendations to COP 19 on how best support the objectives of the work programme. The process is also intended to inform the organization of potential future areas of work that could support work undertaken under the Cancun Adaptation Framework. [Publication: Report on the NWP]
