Thailand Signs UNEP/CMS Dugong MoU

With Thailand's signature of the UNEP/CMS Dugong Memorandum of Understanding, three of the 12 Dugong range states in South East Asia are now signatories.

Thailand has the largest documented area of seagrass, which supports one of the biggest concentrations of dugongs in the region.

30 June 2011: Thailand has become the 20th signatory to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Dugongs and their Habitats throughout their Range (Dugong MoU).

Thailand has the largest documented area of seagrass, which supports one of the biggest concentrations of dugongs in South East Asia. With Thailand’s signature, three of the 12 range States in the region now have signed the Dugong MoU.

The Government of Thailand, along with the Governments of Australia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), led the process of developing and concluding the Dugong MoU, which came into effect on 31 October 2007.
