The African Development Bank (AfDB) hosted the First Dialogue between the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB) and African Stakeholders on 14 December 2006, in Tunis, Tunisia.

The UNSGAB was established in March 2004 by former Secretary General Kofi Annan, to advise on and galvanize global action on water and sanitation issues. The UNSGAB’s current chairman is Prince Willem-Alexander, the Prince of Orange of the Netherlands. The 14 December meeting sought to formulate a framework of collaboration between the UNSGAB and key African organizations in support of ongoing African water initiatives and programmes, including preparations for the 2008 International Year of Sanitation. The Dialogue’s main outcome was the design of specific joint actions by UNSGAB and African institutions to move toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on water and sanitation in Africa.
