The Second International WASH Practitioners’ Marketplace and Fair took place in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh, from 11-13 November 2008, and was organized by STREAMS of Knowledge, a global coalition of resource centres engaged in capacity development in the area of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) – and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

The Fair addressed: the fact that almost half of Asia’s population lack access to sanitation; integrated water resource management; community participation; and sanitation entrepreneurship. The Fair was part of ESCAP’s Pro-poor Water and Sanitation in Small Towns project, which assists local governments and their partners to extend water and sanitation services to the urban poor, through the documentation and sharing of innovative practices through workshops, pilot projects and advisory services.
