story highlights

The CMS Secretariat and HSI Australia entered into a Partnership Agreement to increase synergies in the implementation of CMS Agreements and MoUs, with the possibility of developing a Joint Work Plan in the future.

12 December 2011: The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Secretariat signed a new partnership agreement with Humane Society International (HSI) Australia to pursue shared conservation goals.

According to CMS, the agreement, signed on 15 November 2011, aims to achieve enhanced and concerted actions. HSI Australia has been particularly active in the conservation of marine species, as well as engaged in the Agreement on Albatrosses and Petrels (ACAP), the Shark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and the Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP).

Under the new partnership agreement, a framework will be established for the cooperation in the implementation of CMS Agreements, MoUs and action plans. CMS and HSI may also develop a Joint Work Plan with specific activities. [CMS Press Release]
