CBD Requests Input on Review of Biosafety Capacity-building Action Plan

The notification requests parties to submit information for the review of the Action Plan for Building Capacities for the Effective Implementation of the Biosafety Protocol.

11 February 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has requested Parties to the Biosafety Protocol, other governments and relevant organizations to submit information and views regarding the comprehensive review of the updated Action Plan for Building Capacities for the Effective Implementation of the Protocol.

The Action Plan was adopted at the third meeting of the CBD Conference of the Parties serving as Meeting of the Protocol (COP-MOP 3) held in 2006, and Parties decided to review the Action Plan every five years. The terms of reference for the upcoming review were adopted at COP-MOP 5 in 2010. The decision outlines the types of information requested and respective deadlines for submission, as follows: reports on capacity-building activities undertaken in support of the Action Plan (30 April 2011); Parties’ priorities for capacity-building needs (30 April 2011); relevant information that might facilitate the comprehensive review of the Action Plan (30 June 2011); and experiences and lessons learned from the use of indicators in monitoring capacity-building activities (31 March 2012).
