GEF Provides Funding for Preparation of National Reports on Biosafety
story highlights

The CBD Secretariat has informed Parties to the Biosafety Protocol of the availability of GEF funding for the preparation of the second national reports, and application procedures.

15 February 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has informed Parties to the Biosafety Protocol that the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is providing funding for the preparation of the second national reports under the Protocol.

Parties may access funds in two ways: by submitting an enabling activity proposal through one of the GEF implementing agencies; or by accessing funds directly from the GEF Secretariat by submitting a project proposal for the preparation of the national report.

According to the notification, other processes under the Protocol, including reviews of the Protocol’s effectiveness and of the capacity-building Action Plan, depend on the information provided in the reports. The reports also will provide baseline data to measure progress in the implementation of the Protocol’s Strategic Plan. Therefore, Parties are urged to submit their reports before 30 September 2011.
