CBD Invites Nominations for Caribbean Training Course on LMO Risk Assessment

The training course is directed at individuals from governments or relevant organizations in the Caribbean Region who are actively involved in risk assessments of living modified organisms (LMOs).

The course will be held from 26-30 September 2011, in Belize City, Belize.

8 July 2011: The CBD Secretariat is inviting nominations for experts from the Caribbean region to participate in a training course on risk assessment of living modified organisms (LMOs) by 5 August 2011.

The training course, which will be held from 26-30 September 2011, in Belize City, Belize, aims at enabling participants to: learn about risk assessment in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and review the general concepts, principles and methodologies; understand the framework in which the risk assessment is conducted, the mandate of a risk assessor and how to establish an interdisciplinary teamwork in the context of risk assessment; understand the need for and use of baseline information in a risk assessment; review the format and key elements of risk assessment reports/dossiers and risk assessment summaries; develop skills in using and interpreting existing information, as well as identifying and addressing information gaps; and test the Guidance on Risk Assessment of LMOs.

Countries and organizations in the Caribbean region are each invited to nominate one expert who is actively involved in risk assessment of LMOs. Participants will be selected based on their scientific background. [CBD Notification]
