Strengthening Africa’s Negotiating Voice at Rio+20

The African Development Bank (AfDB) and its partners will be holding a training session to ensure that African negotiators “speak with one voice” at the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The session will take place immediately prior to the first round of “informal-informal” negotiations on the zero draft of the Rio+20 outcome document. The training will focus on Africa’s preparatory process and common position for Rio+20, negotiation strategies from regional and global perspectives, and effective negotiating skills. Partners in Rio+20 planning include the AfDB, African Union Commission, UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UN Development Programme Regional Office for Africa (UNDP-RoA) and UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
