This conference will convene under the title “Advances and Gaps in Understanding Marine Bioinvasions.” Participants will consider the following themes: development and tests of invasion theory; drivers of invasibility; patterns of invasion and spread at local, regional, and global scales; impact of bioinvasions on ecosystem structure and function; and new tools for identification, monitoring, risk assessment, and management. The organizing committee of this conference includes Luis Valdes, Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) of Gijón and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
