The Workshop on Data and Knowledge on Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas convened from 5-7 November 2007, at UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Participants reviewed and adopted recommendations regarding both the FAO World Wide Review of Deepwater Fisheries in the High Seas and relevant sections of the draft International Guidelines for the Management of Deep-sea Fisheries in the High Seas. The Review is intended to provide States and other interested parties with a summary of the current state of high seas bottom fisheries, as well an assessment of gaps in relation to the management of these fisheries. These recommendations will be included in the development process of the FAO International Guidelines, and will be made available to FAO members at the Technical Consultation scheduled to take place in February 2008 (IISD RS Sources).
