The Working Group on the Future of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS) met in Bangkok, Thailand, from 28-29 February 2008.

The working group reviewed options for the future of the IFCS, including: modifying the IFCS as a distinct institutional arrangement that avoids duplication with similar bodies, enhances synergies and saves costs; integrating the IFCS into the International Committee on Chemicals Management (ICCM) by designating part of each ICCM meeting as a session of the forum; or integrating the IFCS into ICCM by making IFCS a subsidiary body of ICCM. The options will be considered at the next IFCS meeting (Forum VI) in Dakar, Senegal, in September 2008. Any resolution on the future of IFCS involving the ICCM will be considered by the ICCM at its next meeting in May 2009.
