story highlights

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has invited television weather presenters from around the world to “imagine a weather report from the year 2050.” While they will present possible scenarios, not true forecasts, the reports are based on the most up-to-date climate science, and paint a picture of what life could possibly be like if the planet continues to warm.

WMO1 December 2014: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has invited television weather presenters from around the world to “imagine a weather report from the year 2050.” While they will present possible scenarios, not true forecasts, the reports are based on the most up-to-date climate science and paint a picture of what life could possibly be like if the planet continues to warm.

Weather reports from 2050 for Peru, France, Viet Nam, Spain, Canada and Norway have been prepared to coincide with the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, Peru as follows: 1 December (Peru); 2 December (France); 3 December (Viet Nam); 4 December (Spain); 5 December (Canada); and 6 December (Norway).

The videos are intended to motivate ambitious action on climate change by governments, business and civil society. Fourteen videos with weather reports for 2050 were also released ahead of the UN Climate Summit in September 2014.
