FAONovember 2013: Inviting participation in an e-consultation on the Governance of Tenure Technical Guide on Fisheries, the November 2013 Newsletter of the Voluntary Guidelines on Tenure Governance Initiative provides an update on the status of fisheries governance.

The newsletter provides an update on the development of Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries (SSF), to complement the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure. The SSF Guidelines will aim to enhance the contribution of small-scale fisheries to food security and nutrition and support the realization of the right to adequate food. The newsletter describes the process for negotiating these guidelines. It also highlights the recent Land Tenure Journal focusing on fisheries and a technical guide on governance of tenure in fisheries.

The newsletter links to local stories from the field from Cambodia, Indonesia, and Viet Nam, as well as statements from diverse fishers from multiple continents. The newsletter provides updates on a series of events on fisheries tenure, including the Technical Consultation on the Small-Scale Fisheries Guidelines to be held from 3-7 February 2014; the Conference on Global Fishing Capacity to be held from 13-14 March 2014; and the Global Conference on Rights-based Approaches in Fisheries Management in 2015.
