UNWTO, Swedish Tourism Association Launch Sustainable Tourism Initiative

June 2012: The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Sweden’s Travel and Tourism Industry Federation (RTS) have launched a project titled “Down to Earth for Tourism,” aiming to apply experience from space exploration and the International Space Station. The project was launched on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

According to UNWTO, the project’s goal is to develop tools and models that can be repurposed globally and assist other countries, regions and future tourist destinations in sustainable development.
