Unitar1 December 2009: The Climate Change Programme of the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), together with its consortium partner MWH Global, has secured a contract to implement the EU-funded Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA).
The GCCA is a support facility aimed at assisting developing countries to increase their climate change adaptive capacity, in support of the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Its objective is to support particularly vulnerable countries, such as the least developed countries and small island developing States, in five priority areas: adapting to climate change; reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD); enhancing participation in the clean development mechanism (CDM); promoting disaster risk reduction; and integrating climate change into poverty reduction strategies and programmes.[UNITAR Press Release]
