2 April 2009: The International Training Centre for Local Authorities/Actors (CIFAL), a training center affiliated to the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), held a training workshop on local governments and climate change in Curitiba, Brazil, from 24-27 March 2009.

The objective of the workshop was to increase Latin American local authorities’ understanding of the impacts of climate change in urban areas. It also provided a platform to increase participant’s knowledge of climate change solutions and methodologies, as well as to exchange best practice of climate change adaptation and mitigation. The workshop attracted participants from 28 Latin American cities, as well as experts from various organizations. The training workshop was part of UNITAR’s Local Development Programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of local authorities to deal with climate change.
