9 November 2012: The 67th Session of the UN General Assembly Second Committee convened a two-day dialogue on disaster risk reduction (DRR). According to the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), many states made reference to the need for sustainable development to be approached holistically, incorporating DRR.

During the event, which convened from 8-9 November, in New York, UNISDR also noted that the Group of 77 and China and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) stressed that “climate change is one of the most serious global challenges of our times.” States called for increased efforts towards resilience and for the implementation of key recommendations from the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20).
