The UN Forum on Forests Ad Hoc Expert Group on Finance has convened in Vienna, Austria, from 10-14 November 2008.

The Group is seeking to develop proposals for the development of a voluntary global financial mechanism/portfolio approach/forest financing framework to support the implementation of sustainable forest management, the achievement of the global objectives on forests, and the implementation of the non-legally binding instrument on all types of forests. Experts are considering a background document prepared by the Advisory Group on Finance of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The meeting’s report will be submitted to the UNFF’s eighth session in April and early May 2009, when a decision on financing is expected.
