A week-long country-led initiative (CLI) in support of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) opened on 16 November 2009, in Guilin, China.

The CLI will focus on forests for people and the role of the Non-Legally Binding Instrument on All Types of Forests (NLBI). It is designed to share experiences and lessons learned in the use of national forest programmes to achieve sustainable forest management and as a means to implement the NLBI. Conclusions and recommendations arising from the meeting will provide the basis of a summary report that will be submitted to UNFF to facilitate and inform discussions at its ninth session. The CLI is organized by the People’s Republic of China in collaboration with Austria, Finland, Germany, and the US.
