UNFCCC Secretariat Receives AWG-KP Submissions on the Coverage of GHGs and on LULUCF

7 May 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released two compilations of submissions for consideration during the eighth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 8), which will convene from 1-12 June 2009, in Bonn, Germany, in conjunction with the 30th session of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies and the sixth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC (AWG-LCA 6).

Five submissions from parties have been received on views on the coverage of greenhouse gases (GHG), sectors and source categories, common metrics, possible approaches targeting sectoral emissions and other issues (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/MISC.10). The submissions are from Brazil, the Czech Republic on behalf of the European Community, Japan, the Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia.
The Secretariat has also received 17 submissions from 25 parties on options and proposals for addressing definitions, modalities, rules and guidelines for the treatment of land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/MISC.11). During AWG-KP 7, parties were invited to submit their views on these issues. The submissions are from: Australia; Belarus; Canada; a joint submission from the Central African Republic, Ecuador, Ghana, Guyana, Honduras, Madagascar, Nicaragua, Panama, Papua New Guinea and Uganda; China; the Czech Republic on behalf of the European Community; Iceland; India; Indonesia; Japan; Malaysia; New Zealand; the Russian Federation; Saudi Arabia; Singapore; and Switzerland.
