2 July 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a note by the Chair (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/10) on documentation to facilitate negotiations among parties during the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9), which will take place from 28 September – 9 October 2009, in Bangkok, Thailand, and for the resumed ninth session to be held in Barcelona, Spain, from 2-6 November 2009.

The documentation has been prepared building on the work of AWG-KP 8, and is compiled in addenda to the note. The first addendum (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/10/Add.1) consists of proposed amendments to the Kyoto Protocol pursuant to its Article 3, paragraph 9. The second addendum (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/10/Add.2.) comprises other proposed amendments to the Kyoto Protocol. The third addendum (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/10/Add.3) consists of proposals for elements of draft decisions on other issues identified in paragraph 49 (c) of document FCCC/KP/AWG/2008/8.
Proposals for elements of draft Conference of Parties/Meeting of Parties (COP/MOP) decisions on emissions trading and the project-based mechanisms are contained in Annex I. Options and proposals on how to address definitions, modalities, rules and guidelines for the treatment of land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) are contained in Annex II. Proposals for elements of draft COP/MOP decisions on greenhouse gases, sectors and source categories, common metrics to calculate the carbon dioxide equivalence of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks, and other methodological issues are contained in Annex III. Proposals for elements of draft COP/MOP decisions on other issues are contained in Annex IV. The fourth addendum (FCCC/KP/AWG/2009/10/Add.4) contains a compilation of proposals by Parties for aggregate and individual figures for Annex I Parties.
