UNFCCC Reports on Capacity Building Activities in EIT Countries

The report presents information according to the elements of the capacity-building framework.

The Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) may wish to consider the findings and key issues outlined in the report when reviewing the implementation of the capacity-building framework with a view to identifying further steps to enhance the capacity of these countries to respond to climate change.

UNFCCC13 May 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report titled “Analysis of progress made in, and the effectiveness of, the implementation of the framework for capacity-building in countries with economies in transition in support of the comprehensive third review” (FCCC/SBI/2012/10).

The report contains information on capacity-building activities undertaken in economies in transition (EIT) countries, and identifies needs and gaps. It focuses on activities undertaken and reported on between 2007 and 2011. The information is drawn from reports on activities provided by Annex II Parties and EIT countries in their national communications, submissions from Parties and information from relevant organizations. The UNFCCC Secretariat received four submissions from three Parties in response to the request made by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at its 27th session.

The report presents information according to the elements of the capacity-building framework. SBI may wish to consider the findings and key issues outlined in the report when reviewing the implementation of the capacity-building framework with a view to identifying further steps to enhance the capacity of these countries to respond to climate change. The report will be considered by SBI at its 36th session, scheduled to take place in Bonn, Germany, from 14–25 May 2012. [The Report]
