22 September 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published Nepal’s submission on its experience with the implementation of the least developed countries (LDCs) work programme, including the updating and implementation of its national adaptation programme of action (NAPA) and in accessing funds from the LDC Fund (FCCC/SBI/2012/MISC.12).

Nepal’s submission highlights, inter alia, its experience in implementing its NAPA, including issues that need to be enhanced, such as the complexity of the process for accessing the LDC Fund, and the lengthy communication process required for achieving collaboration among parties, the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and GEF Implementing Agencies (IAs). The submission also underscores Nepal’s current initiative to develop Local Adaptation of Actions (LAPAs) to assess site-specific climate vulnerabilities, identify adaptation options and implement the urgent adaptation actions with the participation of local communities and households.

At its 16th session, the Conference of the Parties (COP) invited Parties and relevant organizations to submit to the Secretariat, by 1 August 2012, information on their experience with the implementation of the LDCs work programme, including the updating and implementation of NAPAs, and in accessing funds from the LDC Fund, for compilation by the Secretariat into a miscellaneous document for consideration by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at its 37th session (SBI 37).
