UNFCCC Newsletter Reviews Efforts to Deliver on the Cancun Agreements

The July issue of the UNFCCC newsletter features a video message from UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres on how the Cancun Agreements are being taken forward, as well as articles on recent developments and activities under mitigation, adaptation, finance and technology.

28 July 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the July 2011 edition of its newsletter, which features a video message from Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, in which she takes stock of progress to deliver on the Cancun Agreements.

The newsletter also contains an article on how households and communities benefit from projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). In a guest column on the multiple benefits of energy efficient lighting, Harry Verhaar, Philips Lighting, describes energy and cost savings of new light technology.

The newsletter also highlights recent developments and activities under mitigation, adaptation, finance and technology. It also provides an update on the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP). Other news includes: the launch of a new information portal on multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs) called InforMEA; how curbing black carbon would bring dramatic, quick benefits to all; and a call for new technologies to avoid ecological destruction.
