UNFCCC Discusses Timing of COP/CMP President’s Election

The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a note, titled ‘Adjusting the Timing of the Election of the President,' which discusses options for adjusting the timing of the election of the President of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP), as well as options for strengthened coordination between the President and incoming COP and CMP Presidencies to ensure a smooth transition between sessions.

UNFCCC19 September 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a note, titled ‘Adjusting the Timing of the Election of the President,’ which discusses options for adjusting the timing of the election of the President of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP), as well as options for strengthened coordination between the President and incoming COP and CMP Presidencies to ensure a smooth transition between sessions.

The Secretariat invites the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) to consider available options and provide further guidance. Under the election of the COP/CMP President, the note addresses procedures for the election and the commencement of office, and adjusting the timing of the election and commencement of office. It also contains a separate section on strengthening coordination between the President and incoming COP/CMP Presidencies.

The note will be considered at the 41st session of the SBI to be held in Lima, Peru, from 1-8 December 2014. [Publication: Adjusting the Timing of the Election of the President]
