UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education organized a three-day symposium entitled: “Water for a Changing World: Enhancing Local Knowledge and Capacity” in Delft, the Netherlands, from 13-15 June 2007.

The event aimed to formulate a ‘road map’ for stakeholder organizations, including academic and research institutions, water sector operators, governments and non-governmental organizations, civil society and donors, to improve and strengthen the capacity of individuals and organizations at the local level. Participants identified challenges for sustainable water management as well as priorities that need to be addressed in enhancing knowledge and capacity to respond to these challenges; and formulated recommendations on the strategy, priority actions and preferred tools and instruments for enhancing knowledge and capacity.
