UNESCAP East and North-East Asia Office Marks Move to New Premises

At the ceremony to mark the move, Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, noted that "the East and North-East Asia subregion will benefit from a comprehensive multilateral mechanism for strengthening subregional and regional cooperation, for addressing transboundary challenges, and for harnessing partnerships and development solutions to meet new challenges."

UNESCAP31 May 2013: The UN Economic and Social Commission East and North-East Asia Office (UNESCAP-ENEA) has announced its move to new premises in the I-Tower in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of Korea.

The move is consolidating four UN offices: the ESCAP East and North-East Asia Subregional Office, the ESCAP Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT), the UNISDR Office for Northeast Asia together with the Global Education and Training Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific of UNCITRAL.

A ceremony to mark the move took place on 31 May 2013, with speakers including Noeleen Heyzer, Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, Song Young-Gil, Mayor of Incheon City, and Seung Soo Han, former Prime Minster. Heyzer noted that “the East and North-East Asia subregion will benefit from a comprehensive multilateral mechanism for strengthening subregional and regional cooperation, for addressing transboundary challenges, and for harnessing partnerships and development solutions to meet new challenges.”

In addition to the four UN offices, the Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund and the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership Secretariat are expected to move into the same building later in 2013. [UNESCAP-ENEA Press Release][UN Offices in Republic of Korea website][UNESCAP News Release]
