September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP)/GRID-Arendal Marine Programme has released the September 2011 edition of its newsletter (Marine Newsletter #21), including an update on a publication on the blue economy. The blue economy publication is being produced as a supplement to UNEP’s Green Economy Report, and also will make the economic case for greening economic activities.

According to the newsletter, the blue economy report, titled “Green Economy in the Blue World,” is expected to be released in early 2012. It will focus on six sectors operating in the marine realm: small scale fisheries and aquaculture, transport, renewable energy, marine minerals, tourism and polluting activities. The report is intended as a contribution to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development’s (UNCSD, or Rio+20) theme on green economy in the context of poverty eradication and sustainable development.

The newsletter also notes UNEP/GRID-Arendal’s participation in several upcoming meetings, including a meeting with the Government of Norway to discuss activities to be implemented by UNEP/GRID-Arendal under the Training and Capacity Building Program and the Data Acquisition Program for six West African coastal States for the Establishment of the Outer Limits of the Continental Shelf Beyond 200 Nautical Miles.
