UNEP/GRID Arendal Marine Programme Releases October Newsletter

According to the newsletter, the Global Outlook on Benthic Ecosystems will include a description of seascapes, benthic habitat mapping for management, and legal regimes, and is expected to be use for ecosystem-based approaches to the spatial management of the seabed.

October 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP)/GRID-Arendal Marine Programme has released the October 2010 edition of its newsletter, including updates on the progress of the Global Outlook on Benthic Ecosystems and the international response to its publication, “The Rapid Response Assessment Report: Sick Water?”

According to the newsletter, the Global Outlook on Benthic Ecosystems is intended to provide a multi-thematic overview on key aspects shaping current debates on management. Expected to be completed in 2011 or 2012, the publication will include a description of seascapes, benthic habitat mapping for management, and legal regimes, and is expected to be used for ecosystem-based approaches to the spatial management of the seabed.

The newsletter notes that “The Rapid Response Assessment Report: Sick Water?” was one of 10 finalists in the Digital Magazine Awards 2010 for News & Business Magazine of the Year. [The newsletter]
