UNEP Reports to CPR on Ecosystems Management

UNEP Executive Director Steiner drew attention to UNEP's continued to support to countries in building capacity for regular reporting of the State of the Marine Environment including social and economic aspects.

He said a regional workshop was held for East Africa Member States in August 2012, while three more are planned for West Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific regions.

UNEPSeptember 2012: UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Achim Steiner reported to the 120th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) on UNEP’s activities related to ecosystems management, among other activities. The report was delivered in New York, US, on 26 September 2012.

According to Steiner, UNEP: is playing a key role in implementing the recommendations of the Global Drylands Response report; contributed to the report titled “Avoiding Future Famines: Strengthening the ecological foundation of food security through sustainable food systems;” led the process of assessing the progress made by countries in implementing Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM); produced The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) for Water and Wetlands Briefing Note for the 11th Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Ramsar Convention; and provided an interim Secretariat for the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
