The sixth meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International lakes has met at the invitation of Finland and Slovakia.

The meeting took place from 18-20 May 2005, in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Working Group agreed that the main target group of the strategic guidance for monitoring and assessment of transboundary waters were policy-makers and planners at the national and local levels, although other groups, such as public health experts who make use of monitoring results, could also benefit from them. Delegates also discussed pilot projects on transboundary rivers and lakes throughout the region, as well as transboundary water management agreements. The seventh meeting of the Working Group is tentatively scheduled for 3-5 May 2006 in Geneva, Switzerland. More information.
