21 October 2008: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN
Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have submitted
reports on progress in the implementation of Article 4, paragraphs 8 and 9, of
the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and of decision 1/CP.10
to the UNFCCC Subsidiary Body for Implementation, which will hold its 29th
session in Poznan, Poland, from 1-10 December 2008.

UNDP’s submission outlines
its actions on: improving information on accessing existing funds for
adaptation, including for the implementation of national adaptation programmes
of action; enhancing access to existing funds for adaptation; enhancing
national planning for adaptation; and promoting risk management approaches and
other appropriate responses to the adverse effects of climate change, building
on the practical experience of international, regional and national
organizations and the private sector. UNEP’s submission outlines the Agency’s
experience and strategy on adaptation to climate change, detailing: UNEP’s
long-term commitment to climate change; UNEP’s past and future activities in
climate change adaptation; and examples of current actions contributing to the
foci of UNEP’s work on adaptation.
The WFP’s submission outlines its role in
climate change adaptation, highlighting work on: risk management and risk
reduction programme design and implementation; vulnerability analysis and early
warning systems; and implementation of community-based adaptation programmes
that help vulnerable groups build resilience to climate change. The WFP also
provides examples of the activities relevant to climate change adaptation and
mitigation that it undertook in 2007. [The Submissions]
