December 2009: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Division for Sustainable Development (DSD), has prepared a policy brief titled “Ocean Acidification: A Hidden Risk for Sustainable Development.”
The brief reviews the issue and current UN actors that are considering oceans issues. It also presents policy options related to: international action on mitigating carbon dioxide emissions; information generation and dissemination; improving capacities in developing countries; and raising awareness. The brief was prepared by the DSD with input from the UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (UNDOALOS), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and members of UN-Oceans.
