23 October 2008: The UN Human Settlements Programme
(UN-HABITAT) has launched “State of the World’s Cities 2008/2009: Harmonious
Cities,” a flagship report published every two years by the UN agency.

The
Report indicates that half the world’s population currently lives in cities,
and within two decades this proportion will increase to 60%. In relation to
climate change, the report finds that many cities are at risk from rising water
levels, and more needs to be done now to mitigate the impact this will have on
their populations and assets. [UN
