The eighth session of the Committee on Water Resources of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) took place from 17-19 December 2008, in Beirut, Lebanon, and gathered representatives of member countries, international, regional and civil organizations, as well as experts on water resources.

Participants focused on the potential impacts of climate change on the water resources sector in the ESCWA region, possible adaptation measures, and domestic actions by member countries to deal with those impacts. Participants also reviewed: progress made in achieving the Millennium Development Goals and water quality management in the ESCWA region; follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations made by the Committee on Water Resources at its seventh session; and progress made in carrying out water resource-related activities between the seventh and eighth sessions of the Committee on Water Resources under the ESCWA programme of work.
