In a message to mark the Day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for increased action to fight climate change and meet the MDGs.

24 October 2010: This year’s celebrations of UN Day on 24 October, the anniversary of the date when the UN Charter entered into force, focused on the UN Millennium Development Goals, following the September High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly that adopted a global action plan to achieve the Goals by their 2015 target date.

In a message to mark the Day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon underlined that the Day is an opportunity to “resolve to do more,” highlighting the need to do more to, inter alia, fight climate change and meet the MDGs. [Ban’s Statement]
