UNFCCC27 October 2014: In preparation for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, the Secretariat has released an advance version of a joint report detailing the activities and functions of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN). In the bodies’ joint key messages for the COP, they report that the Technology Mechanism is “fully operational and fulfilling its mandate” and emphasize the need for stable financial support for effective operation.

In addition to outlining past and upcoming activities, including cooperation with other bodies, the TEC offers key messages to parties relating to technology needs assessments (TNAs), climate technology financing and technologies for adaptation. In all these areas, the TEC points to the importance of including all stakeholders, such as experts, local communities and relevant institutions.

The CTCN reports that it has held a series of training workshops, in a variety of languages, in cooperation with national designated entities. A direct result of these workshops, according to the CTCN, is a growing number of requests from countries for technical assistance. To make information available and streamline knowledge-sharing, the CTCN is creating a knowledge managements system, which is also presented in the report.
