The fifth meeting of the Helsinki Commission’s international ad hoc Task Force on the development of the Baltic Sea Action Plan convened from 2-3 April 2007 in Helsinki, Finland, to finalize the draft Baltic Sea Action Plan.

The Plan will be submitted for adoption at the HELCOM Ministerial Meeting, scheduled on 15 November in Krakow, Poland. The Plan aims to reduce pollution in the Baltic Sea and restore its good ecological status. Task force participants discussed: the Plan’s structure; possible activities needed to curb eutrophication; pollution prevention involving hazardous substances; the improvement of maritime safety and oil pollution response capacity; and the halt of habitat destruction and the decline in biodiversity.
