SPREP, ICRI Release Report on Pacific Coastal Management Practices

28 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) have released a report presenting 17 case studies of coastal management throughout the Pacific region. Titled “Good coastal management practices in the Pacific: experiences from the field,” the case studies illustrate local, provincial, national and regional actions.

Good coastal management practices in the Pacific noted in the report include: integrating coastal, catchment and island management; enhancing the role of government and strengthening the enabling environment; sustaining support and achieving cost effectiveness; and providing appropriate support through education, awareness, monitoring or research.
