15 June 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) announced progress on implementation of the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Project in the Marshall Islands, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between key stakeholders in the country.
According to SPREP, the MoU establishes principles and guidelines for collaboration between the Majuro Water Sewer Company and the Office of Environmental Planning and Policy Coordination to improve the delivery of fresh water supply to communities in Majuro, the Marshall Islands. Majuro communities are affected by extreme climate events such as drought, tidal surge, and leakages in water holding tanks and reticulation systems.
