SPREP Announces Pacific Wetlands Action Plan
story highlights

The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has published a three-year action plan for 2011-2013 on wetlands in the region, developed during a workshop co-organized by the Ramsar Convention.

11 February 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) announced the publication of a three-year action plan to promote and strengthen the conservation and “wise use” of wetlands in the region.

The 2011-2013 Regional Wetlands Action Plan for the Pacific Islands follows on the original plan endorsed by SPREP members in 1999. The new action plan was developed during a regional workshop organized by SPREP, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the Government of New Caledonia, in Noumea, New Caledonia, in August 2010.

The goals of the Action Plan include: wetland wise use; wetlands of importance (local, national, regional or international); international cooperation; institutional capacity; and membership. [SPREP Press Release] [Publication: 2011-2013 Regional Wetlands Action Plan for the Pacific Islands]
