30 January 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced that a three-month independent external review of the SPC will take place, from February to April 2012. The terms of reference for the review were agreed at the 7th Conference of the Pacific Community, which convened in 2011. The outcomes of the independent review are expected to feed into SPC’s 2013-2017 corporate plan.

According to SPC, the review will consider SPC in the context of its broader role in regional development. The external team will examine SPC’s focus, governance, management, mode of delivery, financing and performance monitoring, and make recommendations on the organization’s core business.

SPC noted the timeliness of the exercise in light of the recent integration of Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) and Secretariat of the Pacific Board for Educational Assessment SPBEA into SPC. [SPC News]
