The second international meeting on the establishment of the South Pacific regional fisheries management organisation (RFMO) took place in Hobart, Australia, from 6-10 November 2006.

Delegates did not reach agreement on interim measures that might apply in the period prior to the entry into force of the proposed Agreement to establish a South Pacific RFMO, but agreed that the matter would be discussed further at the Third International Meeting, scheduled for 30 April-4 May 2007, in Chile. The Deep Sea Conservation Coalition and Greenpeace have condemned the European Community, South Korea, and Russia for blocking measures supported by Australia, New Zealand, Chile, the Pacific Island States and the US aimed to protect deep sea life from bottom trawling.
