25 September 2009: Addressing the General Assembly’s annual General Debate, small island States’ leaders warned that their very existence may be at stake if urgent measures are not introduced to slash greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to rising global temperatures.
Leaders from the South Pacific, the Caribbean and off the coast of Africa stressed that the success of the climate change negotiations in Copenhagen will be measured by how well any final deal protects the countries that are most vulnerable to global warming. [UN News Centre]
