klima20096 November 2009: The second global online conference on climate change, titled “Climate 2009/Klima 2009,” took place from 2-6 November 2009, hosted by the Faculty of Life Sciences of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
The patron of the conference was the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Michel Jarraud, and partners included the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Delegates from 147 countries joined this online conference. Special discussion fora and chat rooms provided direct interaction with the participating scientists. The aims of the conference were to: introduce the latest findings on scientific research on climate change, including elements related to its environmental, social, economic and policy aspects; introduce projects and other initiatives being undertaken in both industrialized and developing countries by universities and scientific institutions, government bodies, NGOs and other stakeholders; and discuss the problems, barriers, challenges and potentials related to the social, economic and political aspects of climate change worldwide.
