Report of the 30th Session of the International Sava River Basin Commission Released

The International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) has released the report of its 30th Session, which took place from 7-8 November 2012, in Zagreb, Croatia.

The expected outcome, namely the adoption of the draft Sava River Basin Management (RBM) Plan, was postponed until its 31st session, pending further modifications.

The Session also discussed realization of the 2012 Work Plan, including on flood prevention, RBM, navigation, hydrological and meteorological issues, and tourism development, among other issues.

8 November 2012: The International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) has published the report of its 30th session. At the meeting, ISRBC noted the proposed Sava River Basin Management (RBM) Plan, and discussed realization of the Work Plan for 2012, including on flood prevention, RBM, navigation, hydrological and meteorological issues, and tourism development, among other issues.

The 30th session took place from 7-8 November 2012, in Zagreb, Croatia. The expected outcome of the session, namely the adoption of the draft RBM Plan, was postponed until the 31st session, pending further modifications. Proposed amendments to the plan are to be sent to the ISRBC Secretariat by 30 November 2012. Participants took note of the work of the Permanent Expert Group (PEG) on RBM and PEG on Flood Prevention (FP). The session adopted decisions on classification of the Sava River Waterway, rules on harmonized river information services (RIS) in the basin, and production and update of inland electronic navigational charts (IENC).

ISBRC also welcomed adoption of the “Declaration for a Better Tomorrow in the Sava River Basin” by the Sava River Basin Youth Parliament, which calls for sustainable development of, and transboundary cooperation in, the Sava River Basin. The 31st Session of the ISRBC will take place from 19-20 February 2013. The Sava River is the third largest tributary of the Danube, flowing through four countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia.
