Report of 48th Meeting of CDM Methodologies Panel Released

The CDM Methodologies Panel considered matters relating to methodologies for CDM project baselines and monitoring plans, including 15 proposed new methodologies, and requests for clarification on, and revision to, approved methodologies.

21 March 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report of the 48th meeting of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Methodologies Panel, which convened from 7-11 March 2011, in Bonn, Germany. The Panel considered matters relating to methodologies for CDM project baselines and monitoring plans.

At the meeting, the Panel considered 15 proposed new methodologies, and recommended for non-approval four of the methodologies as follows: Emission reductions in the cement production facilities of Holcim Ecuador S.A.; Displacement of Traditional Cement Production with the Use of Low-greenhouse gas (GHG) Cement Substitutes; Introduction of a new, natural gas fired combined cycle power plant for supplying heat (for space and water heating and heat for cooling) to a district heating system and electricity to a power grid; and Grid connection of isolated electricity system. It agreed to continue consideration of five of the methodologies, pending further discussion or the submission of further information from the project participants, and to make preliminary recommendations regarding the other six.
