Preparations for the Fourth World Water Forum have continued, with several regional and sub-regional events held in recent weeks.

On 8 and 9 December 2005, a meeting of the Africa Regional Directive Committee for the 4th World Water Forum took place in Windhoek, Namibia, to conclude the Africa Regional Report and the continent’s contribution to the Ministerial Declaration that will be sent to the dialogue table during the Forum. The Africa Regional Report identifies problems and challenges regarding the availability of water, and establishes a commitment to reach full access to water and sanitation services by the year 2025. Other recent meetings include a dialogue of Plata Basin countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) held on 23 November 2005 at Foz de Iguazú, Brazil. Civil society workshops have also been held recent in San Salvador, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, and the 21st World Water Congress held in New Delhi in November also addressed various relevant issues.
